The Bucks County Symphony Orchestra thrilled an enthusiastic audience at a sold-out Pops Concert at Delaware Valley University on Saturday, March 15. Music Director José Luis Domínguez led the 80-piece orchestra in a presentation of exhilarating and enchanting Musical Gems from the Silver Screen, featuring scores from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as a selection of favorite themes from other blockbuster films.
Maestro Domínguez offered engaging, informative, and inspiring commentary on each work to further enhance the listener’s appreciation for this legendary music. Comments such as “it was such an incredible experience…we were enthralled” and “it was a magical musical experience” were commonly expressed by concertgoers impressed by the amazing energy of the BCSO and the incredible mastery of the challenging scores.
A pre-concert reception was attended by 65 guests, who enjoyed drinks, hors d’oeuvres and stimulating conversation before hearing a special presentation by Chris Collier, Executive Director of Doylestown’s County Theater. Mr. Collier highlighted the importance of music as an integral part of filmmaking. He noted that watching the opening scene of Jaws with the sound off is “just nature footage; nothing foreboding about the ocean scene. It is the threatening double bass notes that set up the horror to follow.” He invited the audience to hear more great music this year at the County Theater, which will present a special program, Keeping the Score, specifically highlighting iconic film scores.
The BCSO’s Spring Concert is on Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 at Central Bucks High School South in Warrington.
