Valentin Kovalev, saxophone

Mr.Kovalev is a passionate and ebullient classical saxophonist seeking to elevate the voice of the saxophone in classical music. He has won the most prestigious international competitions, including the MTNA Competition (USA), Manhattan International Competition (USA), Classical Winds Competition (Israel), Andorra Sax Fest (Andorra), Anches Simples de Toulouse (France), EkaterinburgSaxFest (Russia), and Golden Sax (Ukraine).

He has performed at Carnegie Hall, soloed with prestigious orchestras in Russia, France and the United States, toured ten cities in China, and performed in several European countries.

He was named a winner of the 2021 Astral National Competition, and the 2024 Concert Artists Guild’s Louis and Susan Meisel Competition, receiving the coveted Audience Award. As winner of the esteemed Naumburg Foundation 2022 Saxophone Competition, he presented a sold-out debut recital at Carnegie Hall.

An active educator, Mr. Kovalev enjoys teaching masterclasses around the world. He served as a saxophone professor at Rowan University, and is excited to start his next role as visiting professor at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He recently recorded his masterclass and podcast for the online platform AdLibitum Class. He has also engaged a community of music lovers across his social media platforms: Instagram (@valentinkmusic) and his YouTube channel.

Mr. Kovalev first studied saxophone in Moscow, leading to an undergraduate degree from the esteemed Paris Conservatory, and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan. He is a Henri Selmer Paris Artist and is represented by Concert Artists Guild (New York), and Astral Artists (Philadelphia).
