Valentin Kovalev, saxophone

Valentin Kovalev is a passionate and ebullient classical saxophonist seeking to elevate the voice of saxophone in classical music. He has won the most prestigious international saxophone competitions, including the MTNA Competition (USA), Manhattan International Competition (USA), Classic Winds Competition (Israel), Andorra SaxFest (Andorra), Anches Simples de Toulouse (France), EkaterinburgSaxFest (Russia) and Golden Sax (Ukraine).  He is also the recipient of significant awards from Foundation pour la Vocation in France, the Rostropovich Foundation in Russia, and the Musical Fund Society in the United States.

Mr. Kovalev has played at Carnegie Hall, soloed with many prestigious orchestras in his native Russia, France, and the United States, toured ten cities in China, and performed in several countries throughout Europe.

Mr. Kovalev was named a winner of the 2021 Astral National Competition and the 2024 Concert Artists Guild’s Louis and Susan Meisel Competition, receiving in addition the coveted Audience Award.  As winner of the esteemed Naumburg Foundation 2022 Saxophone Competition, he presented a sold-out debut recital at Carnegie Hall, premiering a newly commissioned piece by GRAMMY Award-winning composer Steven Mackey.

As an active educator, Mr. Kovalev enjoys teaching masterclasses around the world. Having served as a saxophone professor at Rowan University in New Jersey, he is excited to start in his next role as a visiting professor at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He recently recorded his masterclass and podcast for the online educational platform AdLibitum Class.

One of Mr. Kovalev’s most significant achievements has been cultivating an engaged community of music lovers across his social media platforms: Instagram (@valentinkmusic) and his YouTube channel (V&A TV). These platforms have allowed him to share his passion for the saxophone, inspiring and empowering others in the pursuit of their musical dreams and fostering a global community of music lovers.

Mr. Kovalev first studied saxophone in Moscow, leading eventually to an undergraduate degree from the esteemed Paris Conservatory, and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan. He is an endorsing artist for French saxophone manufacturer Henri Selmer Paris and Conn-Selmer (USA).  He is represented by the Concert Artists Guild (New York) and Astral Artists (Philadelphia).

Concert Parking at Delaware Valley University:

Limited parking will be available in Lot C adjacent to the Life Sciences Building. Additional parking can be found in Lot A using the University’s Main Entrance on Butler Avenue. A Bucks County Transport shuttle bus will be available from 6:30-8:00 pm to take you to the Life Sciences Building and return you to your vehicles after the concert. Accessible Parking may be found in Lots A & C.

Note: Parking is not permitted along New Britain Road
