Elizabeth Pitcairn, violin
Violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn, who started violin studies at age 3, and made her orchestral debut at 14, has earned a stunning reputation as a soloist. Performing in partnership with one of the world’s most legendary instruments, she has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, made her NYC debut at Alice Tully Hall, performed at Carnegie Hall, Disney Concert Hall, the Fisher Center at Bard, the Kimmel Center, and many other great orchestras across the globe.
Passionate about youth and music education, she serves as President and Artistic Director of the Luzerne Music Center, a summer camp and chamber music festival for gifted young students. On her tours, she makes time for school visits and gives master classes. A former member of the distinguished faculty at USC’s Colburn School of Music, she taught alongside her former teacher, Robert Lipsett. At the Marlboro Music Festival she performed with members of the Juilliard and Guarneri String Quartets.
Her discography includes recordings of Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Bruch, Bizet, and “Hymns to the Night” commissioned from Swedish composer Tommie Hoaglund, which earned Ms. Pitcairn a Swedish Grammi nomination.
