Education and Youth

Jeanne Marvin Phillips Prize

The Jeanne Marvin Phillips Prize is awarded to the winner of the annual BCSO Youth Concerto Competition.

Jeanne Marvin Phillips, a dedicated music educator and classical pianist, was a founder of the Bucks County Symphony Orchestra in 1953. The Youth Concerto Competition honors the significant contributions she made to the orchestra’s artistic development and her encouragement of young musicians.

Jeanne studied with Julliard’s renowned Madame Lhevinne, and earned a B.A. and M.A. at the Eastman School of Music. A member of the orchestra percussion section, she also served as President of the Bucks County Symphony Society from 1963 to 1965. She later taught theory and piano pedagogy at Bucks County Community College and performed in recitals with acclaimed pianist David Sokoloff.
